Cleanroom Packaging Capabilities Now Available to Customers on the East Coast
Last October, TransPak expanded its packaging and cleanroom capabilities with the opening of its new East Coast facility in Trumbull, CT. A key focus of the 41,000-square-foot facility, managed by Zach Davis, is its new ISO 5 cleanroom.
TransPak’s Trumbull, CT state-of-the-art, certified ISO 5 cleanroom meets all cleanroom standards set by the International Organization for Standardization. In addition to the 1,440 ft2 ISO 5 cleanroom, the facility also has an attached gray room and a gown room that both meet ISO 6 standards.
What is a Cleanroom?
A cleanroom is a controlled environment that uses HEPA filtration to remove particles from the air. The level of cleanliness in a cleanroom is defined by the ISO cleanroom classification system, which ranges from ISO 1 to ISO 9. The different classes dictate the maximum allowable particle count for particles of a certain size. An ISO 5 cleanroom, for example, has a maximum permissible particle count of 3,520 particles per cubic meter.
Industries that require high levels of sterility, such as semiconductor manufacturing, biotechnology, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals, utilize ISO 5 cleanrooms to keep their products safe and uncompromised. Even the smallest particles can have a significant impact on a delicate product’s performance, so stringent standards are necessary.
At TransPak, we are experts at servicing products with strict requirements on dust particle count. We specialize in engineering packaging for pieces of equipment that are critical for manufacturing semiconductors. Our high-tech cleanroom capabilities ensure that customers’ valuable and fragile products, like wafer fabrication equipment, remain undamaged, providing cost savings and peace of mind.
TransPak Trumbull’s First Cleanroom Packaging Project
After extensive preparations spanning several months, the TransPak Trumbull facility successfully executed its inaugural cleanroom project dedicated to cleaning and creating critical semiconductor equipment packaging products.
The project benefited from the collaboration of two experienced TransPak engineers, Tom Hoekman and John Nakka, who flew in from the Netherlands on Sunday, February 19, to contribute their expertise. Hoekman, who boasts more than 15 years of experience in the protective packaging industry, took the lead on the project.
The TransPak engineers and cleanroom operators began their project in the ISO 6 gown room by gearing up in their bunny suits. These provide full-body coverage, including integrated hoods and attached booties that are instrumental in mitigating the risk of particle release.
The team started their work with an initial cleaning of the packaging products in the ISO 6 gray room and followed with a thorough cleaning using wipes and isopropyl alcohol in the ISO 5 cleanroom. After this thorough cleaning, the team utilized UV (Ultraviolet) lamps to ensure no particles remained before packaging the semiconductor packaging products.
During the meticulous packaging process, our engineers employed double-bagging techniques with dedicated cleanroom bags. TransPak manufactures a diverse range of cleanroom bags, sheets, and covers compliant with ISO14644 Class 5 environments. Recognizing the diverse packaging needs of our customers, TransPak offers custom cleanroom products, including flat bags, gusset bags, square bottom bags, and bottom sheets.
The week–long cleanroom project exemplified the precision and dedication of the TransPak team, guaranteeing the utmost quality for our customers’ valuable products. The Trumbull team is committed to excellence and looks forward to further collaborations with new and existing customers at our East Coast ISO 5 cleanroom facility.
